Consider changing your message depending on where your users come from – a different message might be appropriate for users who arrived at your landing page coming from Google vs. from Twitter or Facebook. Businesses with more landing pages (30+) generate 7x more leads than those with only a handful, so there’s no denying their value. Cons: The only con that I can come up with for this product is that it is on the expensive side of things. If you are truly looking to build your empire, than this is the tool for you. If you are looking to play around with a tool and not use it on an every day platform, then I would stay away. You get your bang for your buck if you use this software.


For example, an ecommerce site might model their visitors in a funnel, and identify that there is a large dropoff in users between visiting the shopping cart and actually completing the transaction. Using this data, the company can then form hypothesis as to why this is the case and test ideas for improving conversion rate, such as reducing form fields, establishing trust with seals, or offering limited time offers.

“Moving on, the lack of proof. There is only 1 split-test. The rest is where they’ve been featured in, a way too quick explanation of their experience, and 2 testimonials. Long story short, they need more significant results-related proof, which includes split-tests/case studies, but also how “real” number of people saving time, being more productive…etc.

This is the stage where growth hacking, not to be confused with funnel hacking, comes into play. The purpose of the refinement or growth hacking stage is to analyze funnel results at each impression point to determine where you're losing customers. You will find customers dropping off at multiple points. Recognize the most critical points, prioritize and attack there first. Make changes and move forward, continuing to observe and accept that this stage has no end game. The quest for improved conversions requires continual analysis, refinement and experimentation.

“Unfortunately, it then leads into a long, text heavy section all about the founder, with no value to the reader, and then flows into a very long list of goals and milestones, very few of which provide any value to the reader. There are a few good social proof pieces, but most of them are simply ‘me me me’. It reads more like a CV or an investor deck than a landing page for prospects.

Because the pages are part of your overall site architecture, you can use robust site testing tools like Optimizely or VWO to really improve your page/site performance. Unfortunately, while most landing page tools have built-in A/B testing features, they typically lack the options and level of detail available from more dedicated site testing tools.

This is a nifty feature to know when to take action and move your lead to the next stage. You know, strike while the iron is hot? So now you’ll know if your email is getting read or not. You can also use email metrics to test your email performance, and craft better ones to increase open rates.
It's no surprise Unbounce is near the top of this list -- they've actually written the book on creating high-converting landing pages. Although there are lots of amazing things about this landing page, the two that I absolutely love are: 1) The use of a chat window instead of a classic form, and 2) the detailed -- but well packaged -- information below the form.
When I first wrote this article in 2011, I mentioned how the marketing copy for Crazy Egg’s heat-mapping feature could have been stronger by better explaining how the tool helps customers to increase conversions. While this information is clearer now thanks to the detailed visuals and simple copy layout that allows the reader to skim and scan — it could be better by explaining a bit more.
