Include more than one call to action (CTA) on your website. Chances are that your website visitors will be at different stages of the customer journey. Some might be ready to call or email while others might be researching. Make sure to include offers like free eBooks or whitepapers to capture names and email addresses for those who aren't quite ready to talk to your sales team.
To be honest, I haven’t really explored LeadPages’ sales page templates a whole lot because I tend to design them myself in WordPress. However, when I created my free Pinterest e-book, I decided to create a sales page-esque landing page, which gave more information about the freebie, much like a sales page would. I also used one of LeadPages’ sales page templates to design it.
Webflow, a design tool for web developers, packs a lot of information into just a GIF and three form fields. Having the entire sign-up form on a single line is a nice touch here -- not only does it make the page shorter, but filling out each box from left to right shows users how close they are to clicking the fourth blue button and getting started for free.
Once you have the building blocks in mind, you need to make it your own. You'll want to mimic, not duplicate, the successful components you observed in the recon stage. Using your own content, your own product and your own images, task your graphics team with designing a landing page look and layout that's proven to be successful. Then, follow through with the design of pop-ups, follow-up emails and multiple purchase point options for both first-time and returning customers. Once the funnel has been tested, it's time to go live.
To use with social media advertising. If you’re using Facebook ads, then one of the best things you can do is send viewers to a landing page, rather than to a blog post, or worst of all, a straight up sales page. Sending them to a landing page means that they only have ONE choice: to subscribe or leave. There are no other distractions to keep them from opting in, so if they like your offer, they’ll subscribe. You can configure the lead scoring rules to match your ideal buyer persona by simply adding or subtracting points for the lead property. For example, if your business is purely local, then for a lead to become your customer the minimum criteria is to be within your service area. Add 20 points. If the lead doesn’t belong to an industry you serve, subtract 10 points. In addition to that, you can also customize scores for email, application and web activity. Bring everything together, and you have a list of hot, warm and cold leads in the sales funnel for your sales reps to focus and close more deals faster.
The reason I call this the ideal scenario is because it assumes that you found Spotify from your Google search for "streaming music." In reality, Spotify worked to attract you to their service through YouTube ads, social media advertising, and other marketing channels. After all these efforts, the Google search was just the last piece that pushed you over the edge.
The header must be fully descriptive of what you're selling. Because, if the visitor doesn't understand exactly what you do immediately upon landing, they'll either bounce out of laziness or skim-read the rest of the page until they get the gist. You've got sections, which, if you see my mouse hovering here, you can see the light, see phone green, these are the sections. Then you have rows, which are the blue that you see here, and you've got elements inside of rows and they're the orange elements.

If your conversion requires a form, get the bare minimum of what you need – you can always ask for more info on the thank you page once the deed is done. While most users don’t have a problem providing their name and email address, asking for info about phone numbers and date of birth can cause your drop off rate to skyrocket to 50%. The rule of thumb is not to include more than seven fields in your lead gen form on your landing page.

It is a subtle reassurance that we are here for you and the user will feel the reassurance whether they are aware of it or not.”
I'm not sure how the algorithm works (or if there's one at all), but while I was filling it out, I had some anxiety about not qualifying. Once I found out I did, I was excited to fill out the form, which I'm sure most people who are in debt and using this tool are. By making this offer seem more exclusive before the form appeared on the landing page, I'd bet that Bills.com increased conversions pretty significantly.
This page also happens to be their home page, so there are options for “Download,” “Sign Up” and “Log In” in the header (and that’s ignoring all of the clickable elements in the footer!). All of these options make it hard to know exactly what you are supposed to do on this page. In fact, if you scroll below the fold, you may not even be sure what you’re signing up for.

Because the pages are part of your overall site architecture, you can use robust site testing tools like Optimizely or VWO to really improve your page/site performance. Unfortunately, while most landing page tools have built-in A/B testing features, they typically lack the options and level of detail available from more dedicated site testing tools.
ClickFunnels limits your access to certain types of pages and funnels based on your account level(ClickFunnels pricing of $97+ gets you all the access), but you get full split testing capabilities. The problem with Leadpages Pricing is that you don't get split testing capabilities at their startup price point. This is not good, nor something you want to miss out on. You have to split test as a marketer or you are flying blind. I explain more in this post on split testing.
ClickFunnels has more SEO options than one might expect from a landing page builder. Since I am using this for paid advertising campaigns, I did not expect much in the way of SEO features. I was surprised to find that I could at least edit SEO metadata. But, it is still limiting compared to what I could achieve on WordPress. The Yoast SEO plug-in provides a more comprehensive toolset, and with some SEO know-how, you can achieve a lot of best practices using Yoast.

Actionetics is ClickFunnels‘ email automation application which is native to ClickFunnels. Creating emails and messages are made easy with the email builder which has an almost similar characteristic to the funnel builder. Another cool thing about Actionetics is its Action Funnels feature. Action Funnels let you hyper-segment contacts to trigger certain actions whether it is internal or external. Internal actions include being removed to an email list, added to email list, etc. External actions include being able to receive email sequences.

Inside of each of these you can quite literally edit everything. I can double click here, I can bold, I can unbold, all that good stuff. You can open the gearshift or the gear mechanism icon and over here you can do all your editing, you can choose fonts, you can choose sizes, spacing. You can do everything. The flexibility offered by ClickFunnels is unmatched. Then you can hit preview and then in your preview screen you can see your live page. That's why getting them to agree to something like a free + shipping offer or by agreeing with something you've said in some way. This is a powerful principle in sales and if you pay attention to some of the best marketers in the world, you'll notice that they work fervently to get your commitment to something, even if it's very small in the beginning. 

This metric denotes the time it takes to convert a lead from the first contact to purchase. In other words, it tells you how long a sales rep spends to close an opportunity. Drilling into this critical metric reveals the effectiveness of your sales team, and helps you identify any barriers in your sales process. After all, the shorter the sales cycle length, the faster your revenue stream.


When I first wrote this article in 2011, I mentioned how the marketing copy for Crazy Egg’s heat-mapping feature could have been stronger by better explaining how the tool helps customers to increase conversions. While this information is clearer now thanks to the detailed visuals and simple copy layout that allows the reader to skim and scan — it could be better by explaining a bit more.
