Follow-up with a thank you page. The thank-you page is a great way to guide visitors to other related material on your website that they may be interested in. Providing this added info in the initial landing page would have been distracting and could have led visitors away from making a conversion. However, now that you’ve sealed the deal, the thank-you page is the perfect place to suggest related products, guides and information your audience may find helpful, or links to other parts of your site, such as your company blog.


The idea of using a funnel as a metaphor for Sales & Marketing processes in business really stems from the classic Marketing concept, AIDA. Attention, Interest, Desire, Action. These 4 elements generally describe how you build customer relationships, but they can also describe lots of other things too (like how to structure a really good sales letter or sales pitch).
As your sales reps qualify leads and identify opportunities, they’ll create an opportunity, aka deal in the CRM. Sales managers want to know the value of each deal and total deals by stage to prioritize the team’s efforts on high-value deals. In addition to this data being available in the CRM’s visual sales pipeline, you can also create detailed reports to further analyze deals, and add them to a dashboard to actively monitor their progress.

However, many businesses prefer not to add dozens or hundreds of additional marketing pages to their website—especially if they don’t plan on running a particular marketing campaign forever. In addition, creating a landing page on most websites can be a real headache, so unless you have solid design and coding skills, building your landing pages on your own website might be overwhelming.

We can’t stress this enough—the biggest challenge for a sales rep is to be able to identify qualified sales leads. Experienced sales reps probably know how to qualify their leads over time, and therefore effectively work on the right opportunities. But for the rest of them, this is still a burning issue. The struggle to pick out qualified leads in the funnel forces sales reps to chase them all. The result—getting nowhere.

Most likely it’s an issue with the customers not knowing what to do or what to expect. Also, it could be that your leads just don’t know what the offer is. The other possibility is that your bridge page is not per positioning the offer correctly. Again, if sales is the problem you have to look at what you are promising before you send them to the sales page.
Only ask for the information they need. The more fields you ask visitors to fill out in your form, the less chance you have of them completing your offer. If your conversion requires a form, get the bare minimum of what you need – you can always ask for more info on the thank you page once the deed is done. While most users don’t have a problem providing their name and email address, asking for info about phone numbers and date of birth can cause your drop off rate to skyrocket to 50%. The rule of thumb is not to include more than seven fields in your lead gen form on your landing page.
Thanks Matt, yes that’s right. Regarding leads it’s both really! I certainly want to generate more of the right niche/ quality prospects. In short there are 2 distinctly areas; general enquiries which I have a good process for ( but could be improved) the biggest challenge is taking colder leads through the funnel. The sales process can sometimes be quite long, so whilst a well placed offer can work to get someone over line. It’s not very strong for those who are researching etc, hence I need advice about funnel building for regular front of mind contact plus education and industry authority. Does that make sense? When I first wrote this article in 2011, I mentioned how the marketing copy for Crazy Egg’s heat-mapping feature could have been stronger by better explaining how the tool helps customers to increase conversions. While this information is clearer now thanks to the detailed visuals and simple copy layout that allows the reader to skim and scan — it could be better by explaining a bit more.
